Newbury Berkshire, 20th of February 2019 – Roc Technologies today announced it has been awarded a ground-breaking contract for the transformation of The University of Manchester’s campus-wide networking service, as part of the University’s modernisation and digital strategy.

The new partnership between Roc Technologies and The University of Manchester will see Roc modernise wired and wireless network services across the University, spanning 126 buildings across the city, supporting an expected 150,000 devices used by students, academics, administration and research partners.

The University of Manchester ranked sixth in the UK according to the QS World University Rankings® 2019, is a prestigious red brick university and member of the Russell Group: a select network of leading research-intensive universities in the UK.

The network modernisation will involve a complete transformation for the University network with the aim for it to be future proofed, relevant and cutting-edge, and underpin its long term digital vision published in the Manchester  Strategic Plan (https://www.manchester.ac.uk/discover/vision/).

As part of the relationship, Roc and The University of Manchester have agreed to a joint development programme to explore the use of AI powered Digital Assistants to improve the engagement of all University stakeholders in Digital, IT and wider campus services.  This initiative will see developers from both organisations working to deliver transformative experiences under a wider University of Manchester digital experience programme.

Matt Franklin, CEO of Roc Technologies commented, “We are delighted to have been selected by The University of Manchester to become their strategic network transformation partner. Our ambition with the University is to deliver a new network that supports their powerful digital ambitions but also work with them to deliver a consumption-based network service that delivers flexibility and commercial value not seen in the HE Sector in the UK. We are looking forward to working with The University of Manchester and underpinning their vision to become a ‘Digital University’.

Malcolm Whitehouse, Chief Information Officer at The University of Manchester said, “In delivering our transformational IT strategy to ensure we create a world-leading ‘Digital University’ we have looked to partner with organisations who share our vision of innovation. After a significant process that involved engagements across the industry, our selection of Roc Technologies as a partner is down to not only their technical and commercial fit but also their commitment to the social and cultural values – so important to the University and wider community. It is a pleasure to work with an organisation that shares our values for giving something back and we look forward to working with them to not only develop our IT infrastructure but our relationships with our stakeholders”.
